| an incredible testimonial... |

this one deserved its' own post! please read all the way down
Michael Antonia, aka the Human Jukebox, DJd our wedding in August 22nd, in La Jolla, California. Michael did a brilliant job, at short notice.
The music is the part of planning the evening that is the most worrisome if you actually LIKE music, lots of it, lots of kinds of music... We told Michael to have a good time and take risks, and he did it.
That said, from the very first song after the toasts, folks danced like crazy.
Crazy.
We have innumerable photos of older guests boogying (the photos are blurred but there is some discernible high-kicks) and our friends jamming so hard their hair is upside down. My father - a fairly athletic guy- danced the entire time like I have never seen in my life, and reportedly limped through the airport the next day. It was a smallish affair for a California wedding (60 guests) and those ping-pong lights were powerfully bright, but no one cared in the slightest: we got a lot of compliments on the DJ, from a range of guests (my father included).
After dinner, my groom and I successfully harassed the catering staff to join us drinking, and soon enough, Michael had them all dancing! When the party rental guys showed up a little early to pick up their equipment, they too just gave in and hit the concrete patio that was the dance floor. Drenched in sweat, all the male guests in the party finally ran down into the Pacific, suits and ties flying off into the darkness. (I believe the women were still dancing). Thank you, Michael! | how to make it hype pt. 2 |
09.25.09 |
 |
 |
| here is pt. 2 in the continuing series "how to make it hype" these videos are all about taking a couple records and proving that the sum is greater than its' parts! in this case george michael "faith" blended with 50 cent "disco inferno" blended with david bowie's "fame" sounds crazy... i know! |
now all of these are decent records that would be ok to play alone but put them all together and you get dancefloor fire! who knew that george michael & 50 cent could go together like peanut butter & jelly? (is george is the jelly in that combo?) |

| practical is not always practical. |

 |
| i have the good fortune to have a new-ish dj video featured on www.apracticalwedding.com today! this is a video i made especially for our friend meg because i think she is rad. i made the mix below the same day and i thought it would be a nice companion piece to download. this is the first mix i made with a wedding in mind so download it, play it at your wedding, play it at your BBQ, play it in your car and rock out (but think of us while you do it!) don't forget to head over to www.apracticalwedding.com to check out the video, and poke around a little, meg has a great perspective and is a very good writer. |

| shannon & brandon |
09.02.09 |
 |
 |
| so i've started to offer to record my dj sets and deliver a custom mix cd that could be used as a really unique thank you gift for your guests, or just a nice way for the couple to remember something that is so hard to focus on when you just got married, you're all blissed out, and you're dancing your face off... anyway i thought since i don't usually put recordings up that are very wedding specific i would post a few minutes from shannon & brandon's wedding which was in milwaukee last weekend. enjoy. |

| portraits and gangbangers brunch! |
08.25.09 |
 |
 |
| jesse was really on a roll at ben & crystal's wedding and since we were all there (not to mention a bunch of our friends) i took every opportunity i could get to jump in front of her lens, or grab her and say "jess, will you take a picture of me here? oh, wait, how about over here?" it's amazing that she still managed to get all of those incredible shots with me bugging her all day! |
| ben's dad's house has this amazing gradient wall that starts out magenta on the floor and fades to bubble gum pink at the top of the cathedral ceilings! it must have taken FOREVER to paint, and it is flawless! we made very good use of it! it was amazing. |
| (self?) portrait... from L to R max, jesse, michael, whitney (we were trying to look really serious!) humor. |
brian
i wish i could tell you all about the meaning behind this video but i am afraid that none of us really fully get it... my friend brian and i have spent a lot of time on the road together and when you are on the road with someone for long stretches of time you have a bunch of weird inside jokes and some of them (like this one about strudel) don't even make any sense. also our friend drew (who lives in NY) thinks that all we do in LA is eat brunch... (honestly we do eat brunch quite a lot)... then we met a guy named pancake at king eddy's which is this bar we like that charles bukowski used to hang out at. and then we did THIS wedding and jesse took these pictures of us and... well just watch the video... mainly it is about daydreaming while i practice and record in my studio which is pretty much a daily occurrence.

| so you want to get a little ghetto at your party? |
07.13.09 |
 |
 |
i'm not talkin lil wayne (that's not ghetto for anyone keeping score) i love top 40, hip hop, motown, party hits etc. but maybe you don't... that is fine by me! let's get ghetto (i mean really GHETTO). this is a mix i recorded as a tribute to my friend DISCO D who was an amazing producer and DJ that I once worked for who passed away... anyway, he was really into ghetto music from around the world and was among the first american DJs to play Brazilian Baile Funk records (this is the sound that later propelled Diplo into the spotlight and launched the career of MIA). and he really loved the baltimore club sound... anyway, these are just a bunch of records he loved and it was a lot of fun for me to do a mix that paid respect to my friend and that wasn't made for the average dancefloor.
a bunch of the tracks on this mix are really offensive! enjoy. |
