i just got through yelling at myself for omitting my favorite dj mix of 2010 which is cut chemist's 'sound of the police'. if you don't know. you should! i have included my favorite mix from the cd below. enjoy.
i think this was a pretty decent year for new music. a lot of the same old shit but a few rose to the top...
the same 4 records that made my first half of the year best of list are all still here and i have added two more. teen dream gets our (no contest) vote for number one album of the year and the other five are all equally fantastic. i have added a track from each record for you to sample. please PAY for these albums at your local INDEPENDENT record store because that is what makes the world awesome. these are small-ish artists that are on indie labels, you should support talent like this even if you usually download stuff for free. enjoy!
my favorite soul singer covering my favorite everything else singer.
Some say that Blowin In The Wind was the impetuous for A Change Is Gonna Come which is about the best thing i can possibly imagine. Dylan inspires Cooke to pen possibly the most important civil rights song ever made?!?!? Either way I am going to pretend that is definitely what happened.
This video was filmed for the premiere episode of Shindig (September 16, 1964). Sam takes Dylan to church, despite the overbearing whiteness in the room. An amazing performance, really. Also, keep in mind that this was probably one of the first televised instances of a black man being surrounded by white kids, some of whom were females dancing.
RIP Sam Cooke, January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964
i get a lot of requests to suggest songs for first dances... for the last year or so i have been keeping a folder in i tunes dedicated to them and today i thought i'd open that folder for you guys to check out!
i've separated them by age... classics first in no particular order (except for the first one, which is of course, the best!)
to download any of these songs
mac = control click "download as"
pc = right click "save as" (i think...)
Puppet On a String - Gino Washington (this was a client's first dance i had never heard it before the dance and it became an immediate classic in my house... i still play it once a week at least)
Home - Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (this might need a break for a little while because it was waaaaay overplayed this year but it is a spectacular song)
