| we are thrilled to announce our WPPI party sunday march 7th at a very top secret location (sirens). we have a lot of crazy surprises in the works but you can wet your appetite with this... i'll be playing records all evening, the smilebooth will be firing photos all evening, a group of photographers (that you have definitely heard of) will be "performing" and just to name drop a little, in addition to all of us, (flashdance, our labor of love, max wanger, brian, ashley) we will be hanging with jose villa, southern weddings, and a grip of special guests that we will be announcing in the coming weeks via twitter, facebook, and our blogs. this is pretty much going to be the best party of the year (at least until we do another!), this is the only WPPI party you'll ever need! S I R E N S ! |

there won't be any vendor booths, gift bags, or cupcakes, nobody is going to try to sell you anything, and it won't be drenched in fluorescent lighting! there will be a bar, a dancefloor, and 500 of the industries most well know vendors, bloggers, and taste makers getting down under one (relatively small) roof. you will hang with your favorite people, (or at least our favorite people) talk, dance, drink, get sweaty, and be very happy you went!
we all put it on twitter yesterday and have already sold almost half of the tickets available so please, get them now! seriously, buy them like right now because it will definitely sell out and we want you to come!. get tickets NOW wanna be a part of our party? send us an e-mail here |

i kinda wanna get married to melanie and sky's wedding... they just had one of those weddings that you wish you were invited to (i guess working there was a close second). they had it all, ceremony in a beautiful park overlooking the pacific, (ahem, she walked down the aisle to Henry Mancini's theme for The Pink Panther) i mean come on? who is awesome enough to do that?!? dinner was on a mezzanine facing the sun setting over the water, and the danceparty was, even by my standards, off the hook! oh yeah, they also had the smilebooth and they really went off in it (evidence below!)... the whole wedding is up over at 100 layer cake including a new time lapse video i made for them so be sure to check that out.

Dialogue among Giants: Carleton Watkins and the Rise of Photography in California
October 14, 2008 - March 1, 2009 at the Getty Center
from the Getty website... GETTY
In 1850, at the age of 20, Carleton Watkins is believed to have arrived in California from New York via South America. He embarked on a life in photography that began auspiciously during the gold rush (which started in 1849) and ended abruptly with the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire that destroyed his negatives. In between those historic moments, Watkins witnessed an era in which a recurring theme was the enormity of all things in the West. He photographed the expansive western landscape with its miles of coastline, vast natural resources, colossal trees, and the monoliths of the Yosemite Valley using an oversize mammoth-plate camera. |

| I don't have much to add except that if you like California, or photography (or both) you will be floored! Beautiful, gigantic, very old, pictures of the coast, the National parks, and some great shots (including the first ever panoramic image(s) ever made) of San Francisco. I especially loved the image of the San Luis Rey Mission dilapidated in the middle of the desert in North County San Diego I never knew that it was abandoned for some 30 years! Amazing. Highly Recommended. |

| Mad Men Live Revue El Rey Theatre 10/21 |
10.21.08 |
 |
 |
| Our friend and long time collaborator Apple Via and I produced a live music event for the television show Mad Men last night at The El Rey Theatre here in LA. Whitney and I got our start producing events, concerts, music festivals etc. It has been awhile since I've done one, and it really reminded me how much fun it can be. The Mad Men people are wonderful to work with, they are super talented and deserve all of the praise they have been receiving lately. The show was mainly a concert which featured the band that makes all of the music for the show, their musical director David Carbonara conducting, and the actors from the show singing songs from the 50's and 60's. The band was incredible! Joel Murray hosted (by hosted I mean he drank half a bottle of Whiskey, chain smoked, and told jokes in between acts), it would have made the Rat Pack proud! It was quite a spectacle... We decked the whole theatre out to look like it might have in 1959 including elaborate period correct backdrops, a full bandstand, chandeliers, everyone in tuxes etc. As an added bonus the entire audience turned up dressed to the nines in period clothing! Amazing! Come to think of it, this would be a great idea for a wedding! |

| Whit and Jess already had another shoot on the books so we decked out our friend Jiro Schneider (of PYT and Danceright fame) as a late 50's journalist and he took some pictures. He even brought his hasselblad, he really looked the part. What a rad night! |
| The last picture is my production team and I having a well deserved scotch after being on our feet for over 19 hours! |
