meet jen & jaime of ban.do 03.28.09
I was really excited when Max told me he was budddies with Jen Gotch of ban.do because I think their one of a kind head pieces, head bands, and floral hair pieces are the coolest accessory available for a bride, or any stylish lady for that matter AND I'm a big fan of Jen's personal website www.jengotch.com. So Max set up a time and we went to their studio and had a look around, talked a bit, laughed A LOT, and Max took a few pictures.
The first thing you notice when you meet Jen & Jaime, and see their studio, is that they are artists first and foremost. They are not really business people (even though they started a small business on their own without investors or an advertising budget, which is actually making money!) they are not really fashion people (even though they have both worked as stylists, and know the industry) yet, somehow they are in the business of making accessories that are highly regarded in the fashion world! These are our favorite kind of people!
They didn't set out to be the fashion darlings of the wedding world either, it just organically happened that around 75% of their business comes from brides. (it also helps to get the cover of InStyle Weddings (on stands now), and be featured in Martha Stewart Weddings (coming soon)... Well, I for one am glad that it happened to these two girls because they are the most talented, stylish, and hilarious people I have met in quite awhile and it is rad to see the good guys win. I for one have grown far too accustomed to people in that category waiting tables!
Keep your eyes open for their pieces in your favorite boutiques soon, and they have started to add belts to the line! Check them out here: www.shopbando.com

63 records that inspire me most... 03.23.09
I have seen a lot of best of, or top whatever, lists in my time and I am NEVER going to present a best of / top whatever list. This is not necessarily a list of my favorite records either (though many here do make that list). I started collecting records when I was 9 years old and it has been the main creative force driving my life since. That said, this is not a list to impress upon you how vast my record collection is, or how deep my knowledge of obscure music is, many of these selections are pretty obvious. There are certainly single tracks that have had a profound influence on me, but this is a list of albums that have inspired me from way back when I was 9, until pretty recently. Most of these records cost less than $10 and to think that the very foundation of my creative life only cost me around $700 is astonishing!

Sidenote: There aren't any really recent additions as there would be no way to determine their influence yet. The records are in no particular order at all. Let me know what you think I may be missing out on in the comments below.

Meet Lyndsey Hamilton 03.18.09
We have been following Lyndsey Hamilton’s blog www.lheverything.com/ for a while now and we can’t get enough of her big beautiful weddings and inspiration posts. Typically we try to catch up with our favorite vendors at their offices, take some pictures, and present an interview. But Lyndsey doesn’t sit still, and we couldn’t wait to do a profile on her, so I got her on the phone and we talked about her approach, why she does (and loves) what she does and how she manages to juggle so many lovely weddings.

Here are some pictures from her New York Events... Florals by Matthew Robbins
Lyndsey has planned events for many years for friends, colleagues, and acquaintances, and when she planned her own wedding at Wheatleigh, she didn’t want to say good-bye to the process. She didn’t and started her own company. Her strong reputation grew organically through the ability to stay calm in any situation, respect, understand, and listen to clients’ wants and needs, incorporate their vision with her expertise, and create the perfect fusion of function and style.

Making it look easy is a trick that not many of us have figured out. Lyndsey claims her trick is first picking the right clients (she has been known to turn couples down or refer them to a different coordinator because she feels like they aren’t the right fit). She typically works with younger, more edgy couples who are concerned with aesthetics but understand that less is more.

Here are some pictures from her California Events...
A few pieces of advice for the bride and groom to be:

1. Lyndsey claims that the biggest mistake most couples make when planning their own wedding is that they focus too much on the tiny details and miss the big picture (logistics: transportation, getting what you want out of the caterer, asking your vendors the RIGHT questions etc)

2. Your attitude is going to determine how much fun you and your guests have. Keep your expectations manageable and stay positive

3. Keep it simple! (we agree wholeheartedly!) people always blow this one. Don’t make things too fussy.

A good theme idea...

Safari / Africa theme. Lyndsey had a client who was from Africa who had a three day 50th birthday bash that employed a safari theme. (sounds like a lot of fun)

Don't forget...

safety pins, breath mints, advil, chalk, lip gloss, deodorant, a basic sewing kit, double-sided tape, crazy glue, shoe pads, band-aids, bleach pen

Best part of being Lyndsey?

1. Not having to do the same thing everyday!

2. Always working with great people, & great vendors.

3.Sense of accomplishment from having an event work out as planned and making her clients happy.
