I feel way more at home behind the turntables, than I ever would holding a camera, but I have a very discerning eye for photography. I really love it and spend a lot of time following it, both as an artform, and as a means of documentation. Documentation is often cold and typically void of the qualities that make a great artistic image, and images produced exclusively as art are sometimes a bit lofty and often lack significance. Flashdance boasts three amazing photographers (Jesse & Whitney of Our Labor of Love & Max Wanger) that manage to equally honor both diciplines without comprimising composition and beauty, or neglecting the content. That said, it was no surprise to me when I stumbled across Our Labor of Love & Max Wanger represented in a wedding inspiration post on Design is Mine this morning.
It is wonderful to have so many talented friends! |

A little note from my friend Chuck Dong. Why Instant?
This is probably the first time I've taken photography seriously. It kind of formed out of a hatred for how people document every aspect of their lives digitally guilt-free and without respect for precious chosen moments that photography originally was built on. Not that I dislike the mass of digital documentation that goes on, I think that is great in another way. Digital photography has given the art form a dynamic stream-of-conscious aspect to it. It should be considered a different art form compared to film, the ethical rules are very different. |

So I chose to use all instant cameras because its completely on the opposite direction of digital cameras, almost going back to how Deguerreotypes were. But i wanted to still have a continuous blog of the work, so there would be a lot of different looking photos but viewed as a work-in-progress collection. This process requires me to wait for things to happen or quite often an unexpected happy accident will come to me. Either way I love the drama.
Chose your moments wisely. |
