| We have loved the work of Wiley Valentine for some time now and for some odd reason our baby brain has been actively blocking our vendor posts, (don't call it a comeback!)... Anyway we spoke with Rachelle from WV about a few weeks back about the business and the Q&A is below but first some lovely pictures of their work! |

Q. what got you into the business / how long have you been in business?
A. Emily (the other half of Wiley Valentine) and I were working together at a small graphic design firm and we got tired of designing the same old things. Our friends started getting married and we ended up designing their invites. We said to each other one day "wouldn't it be great if we could just do this all the time?!" and that was it. We left and started Wiley Valentine 4 1/2 years ago!
Q. what makes you good at what you do?
A. I am a strong believer that if you love what you do, and its truly your passion that it will show in your work. The paper world has always been something that both Emily and i have had a strong passion for!
Q. what do most people screw up or forget when designing invitations?
A. I think a common mistake is qty. When ordering invitations people need to take in account couples, and families not just guest count. That will cut down on the qty quite a bit. Also I think its important to provide travel information for those weddings that will have a lot of out of town guests. It's nice etiquette.
Q. what do you love best about your job?
A. The custom work is definitely the most fun, I love working with couples directly and creating that really personalized wedding invitation package. By the end of the process I get to know the couple so well. I have several clients that have become close friends!
Q. do you adopt any practice to make your invites eco friendly?
A. Absolutely. We use only 100% recycled or 100% cotton papers on all of our ready-to-order items and most custom items. We use recycled envelopes. We shred misprints and use for packaging, and sell our test prints on etsy!
Q. what would you NOT like to see at a wedding?
A. I am kind of over fan programs and registry info on an invitation.
Q. what would your dream wedding look/feel like?
A. I am really having a love for outdoor weddings lately. Something among large redwoods in a fairy tale like forest. Or a rain forest surrounded by butterflies! Picnic style reception where everyone gets their own picnic basket with custom monogrammed blankets. Dancing beneath the stars with vintage chandeliers hanging from the tree tops. I would love a fun casual vibe with a blend of vintage eclectic mixed in. Lots of personal touches. Oh this is fun! I could go on and on! |
